Google Play Store requires API level 26, starting August 2018

Just recently updated one of my apps on the Play Store and got this message. What does it mean? Will GS make the necessary updates?

Is it API level 28 or 26? All the documentation says 26, which is the Android 8.0 target required by Aug 2018.

Don't even see mentions of 28.

Sounds like GS needs to update the manifest for Android and adjust for any API changes. More info below too:
