Stick character to moving rope aka Pitfall

Hi guys - there's a few posts on this in the dim and distant past, but many seem to have been lost to history on defunct links.
At the 17th second mark in this video: ... there's a character that jumps and affixes to a moving rope.
We have the character, we have the rope - but making him stick is seeming tricky.
Has anyone ever mastered this?

Here is an example that has that 8-bit feel to it:
@highground Blast from the past! This brings me back to my Intellivision days. Pitfall was one of my favorite games. @RThurman swings retro like a Pitfall Champ
I made a project for you showing another method (even has a shiny gif teaser) but alas.. my pro has run out and I can't post it here. I threw it into google drive HERE
Yeah I'm old school so Pitfall was one of the very first 'oh my check that out' moments.
Thanks both very much will check out examples!
Guys ... thank you Soooo much both ... this has really helped.
@RowdyPants -- your example is much more thorough. Great example!
@highground -- you are welcome!
@highground
@RThurman Love the 8-bit feel example as well!
Btw, I still have the really cool demo project you created for the monthly meetup / webinar you taught covering Artificial Intelligence & Correlation and drawing from Richard Marken's 'The Test for the Controlled Variable'. Man, I wish we still did those -- so inspiring & helpful.
I agree -- some of those monthly meetups really showcased the power and potential of GameSalad. (All that power -- inside an itty-bitty little expression editor.) I think my favorite one was getting GameSalad to do handwriting recognition.
