Draw behind an actor?

What is the best way to make an actor "draw" a line behind itself as it moves? I watched the video tutorial on the "kinda working drawing" in the support section but it tends to leave gaps in the line depending on the speed.

Can I use one actor to "draw" a new one with dynamic dimensions on the screen?
