What Lurks Behind the Light

My first game! Well... almost... ok, so I still have a ton of work to do, but I wanted to show SOMETHING of what I've been slaving over. Not refined, no animation, no sound, no real gameplay, camera is wonky, controls feel bad, no parallax scrolling, slow and jerky due to my overuse of particles... but hopefully you can see where I'm going with it.

I think now I'll focus on the graphics and animation. Then I'll return to gameplay and try to optimize and refine things.
I'm trying to get a few background layers to scroll in the opposite direction of the camera at different speeds (as opposed to the player) but can't find the info anywhere and have yet to figure it out.
It seems there is a recipe for that somewhere and from what I've read a lot of Saladeers could benefit. If anyone has any help or behavior screenshots that would really be welcomed.
thanks and well done! Can't wait to see more!
I would imagine you would just constrain the camera to the player to keep it on him/her even when the background layer(s) move about.
The amount of movement behind the player could be set to some multiple of the player's movement, both forward and backward (or up and down or whatever directions you want background layer movement in).
I love the visuals. But the best thing is the flashing of light for the storm and the little twinkling glow of her staff and of course the monsters waving the background, and the depth you given it, and... oh, everything.
Looking forward to seeing a little bit of animations, will certainly make it come to life.
