how to rotate items

im trying to make a tank game but my tank turrets axis is in the middle of the turret. so every time i rotate the turret the turret rotates on a dime in the centre making the whole turret spin around. now this is what i want to happen but not in the middle. i want the turret to look like its rotating nearer the end. its not the best explanation i know but any help would be greatly appreciated. if you understood what i meant
