How to make an actor slow down to a stop

I want to create a scene where if you hold down a key or button, the actor slowly comes to a screeching hault... how would I do this?....

Is the actor always moving otherwise?

Yea the actor was going to be moving at a certain speed, and I wanted to create a rule where if you hold down a key, the actor slows down to a complete stop

I had done a test awhile back on this kind of thing. I put it in the shared projects. Maybe its useful for what you're trying to do?
